Divisions

Green Hunter: Open to horses only in their 1st or 2nd year of showing over fences of any height. Fences to be 2'6" or 3'. (Both heights must be offered). Horses shown in three shows or less at fence heights of less than 2'6" can retain their green status. This will be permitted only once per horse.

Low Hunter: Open to horses. Judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Fences 3'.

Working Hunter: Open to horses. Judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences 3'3" - 3'6".

Adult Amateur Hunter: Open to adults mounted on horses and ponies. To be judged on performance, manners and way of going. Ponies shown by an adult may not be shown in the Pony Hunter Division at the same show. Fences to be 3'. Management may combine this division with the Children's Hunter division if there are fewer than three entries.

SWVHJA Adult Equitation on the Flat: Open to amateurs 18 years of age and older. To be shown at a walk, trot, and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. AHSA tests 1-18 may be used. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete.

SWVHJA Adult Medal (25 and under) and SWVHJA Adult Medal (26 and over): Open to riders 18 years of age or older. Ponies may be ridden by adults, but may not be shown in the Pony Hunter division at the same show. To be shown over a course of fences not to exceed 3' that must include two changes of direction, a combination, and at least three oxers. A minimum of six riders, if available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase. Each phase to count 50%. Same horse must be used for both phases. To qualify for the finals, a rider must accumulate 20 points. Four entries required to fill the class. If there are fewer than four entries, this class may be combined with Adult Medal. No high score will be given. After a rider is qualified for the finals, he or she may not compete in this class. Rider must be a member of SWVHJA.

Junior Equitation on the Flat (15-17 years of age): Open to riders who will not have reached their 18th birthday as of Dec. 1 of the calendar year. To be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. AHSA tests 1-18 may be used. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete.

Modified Junior-Amateur Hunter:

4H-Pony Club Equitation - Walk-Trot class and Walk-Trot-Canter class. The Arlene Conner Future Foxhunter Trophy, sponsored by David Bolen, will be awarded to the High Point Rider from Classes 25 & 26.

BRHF Intermediate Hunter Rider: Walk-trot class and Walk-trot-canter class and Over Fences (2') class.

Intermediate Hunter: Open to anyone in their first or second year of showing who has not shown over fences 2' or higher. Fences 2'3". Judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Rider may not jump higher than 2'9" at the same show.

Field Hunter over Fences: "Warlord" Perpetual Trophy donated by Joan Alberti. Open to horses and ponies that have hunted at least three times with a recognized hunt.

SWVHJA Special Adult Hunter: Open to Adult Amateur riders mounted on horses or ponies. Judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences to be 2'6" or 2'9". Horse/rider combination may not compete over fences higher than 2'9" at the same show. Special division may be combined if there are fewer than 3 entries in either section.

RMC Medal: Open to junior and amateur riders showing in Special Children's or Special Adult Hunter Divisions who have not qualified for SWVHJA Pony Medal or Adult Medal finals during the year 2000 or 2001.

Special Children's Hunter: Open to junior riders mounted on horses or ponies. Judged on performance, manners and way of going. Fences to be 2'6" or 2'9". Horse/rider combination may not compete over fences higher than 2'9" at the same show. Special division may be combined if there are fewer than 3 entries in either section.

Junior Equitation on the Flat (14 & under): The Bud Hickman Perpetual Trophy. Open to riders who will not have reached their 18th birthday as of Dec. 1 of the calendar year. To be shown at a walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. Judged on position, control, and guidance. AHSA tests 1-18 may be used. Three entries are necessary to fill this class. Riders need not be members of SWVHJA to compete.

Small and Medium Pony Hunter and Large Pony Hunter: Open to ponies ridden by juniors. Judged on performance, manners, & way of going. Small ponies jump 2', medium ponies jump 2'3" and large ponies jump 2'9". Divisions must be offered split but if there are not three ponies in either the Small/Medium or Large Pony division, the divisions must be combined. Lines less than 72' must be set on appropriate distances.

SWVHJA Pony Medal: Open to junior member of SWVHJA mounted on ponies. To be shown over a minimum of 6 jumps at the appropriate heights. A minimum of 6 riders, if available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase. Each phase to count 50%. The same pony must be used for both phases. To qualify for the finals, a rider must accumulate 20 points. Four entries are required to fill this class. After rider is qualified, he may not compete in this class. If no Pony Medal is offered, a rider may compete in the Hunter Seat Medal. A rider cannot compete in both Medals in one day, nor can they participate in both finals in one year.


"Masters" Trophy honoring Tex Tilson, Viola Wise, and Gene Clapsaddle. Trophy donated by George P. Moore awarded to high point junior rider in one of the following divisions: Pony Hunter, Intermediate Hunter, Special Hunter, or Children's Hunter; plus placing in SWVHJA Junior Equitation on the Flat.

The Arlene Conner Future Foxhunter Trophy to be donated to the High Point Rider from classes 25 & 26.


The Rockbridge Hunt, its volunteers, Hollins University, or SWVHJA, Inc. will not be held responsible for any accident or loss which may occur to horse or guest.

In accordance with Virginia State Law, all exhibitors will be required to sign a liability waiver. Juniors under 18 will need a parent's or legal guardian's signature.


Directions: Take I-81 to Hollins Exit 146. At the traffic light, turn left onto Route 11 North. At the next traffic light, turn left into Hollins University. Follow the signs for the Riding Center and/or the Horse Show.
